Overview
The Sanctuary Lodge is the only hotel located right next to the mystifying Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. All other hotels are in the town below the ruins, Aguas Calientes. While there are no immediate views of the ruins from the hotel or additional ruin access, guests of the Sanctuary Lodge have the ultimate convenience of being just a few steps from the entrance for early morning visits, and also sweeping views of the mountain range that surrounds Machu Picchu itself. A once in a lifetime experience in one of the most mystical places in the world.
Experience
Below is how we generally recommend setting up stays at this property, but longer or shorter durations are also possible.
You'll take the train from the Sacred Valley to Aguas Calientes (just below Machu Picchu) today. On arrival you will be met by a representative of the Sanctuary Lodge and transported up the road to the hotel in their private shuttles. On arrival you will have time to relax or will make a privately-guided ruin visit, depending on your schedule.
You will spend your days at Machu Picchu exploring the citadel with your private guide. Aside from a traditional visit to the main area of the ruins, you will also have the opportunity to do one of the famous hikes, Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (either are a couple hours round trip).
You'll depart today for your next destination or to head home. Transportation will be scheduled accordingly.
